The Edmonton-area Member of Parliament served as a captain in the Canadian Forces Army Reserve and was recently named national security advisor to the Conservative leader.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre named Dane Lloyd, Member of Parliament for Parkland Alberta, to lead the Conservative Party of Canada’s pro-Canada effort in the upcoming October 19th Alberta referendum on whether the province should begin the process of becoming a separate country.
Poilievre’s decision to appoint the Edmonton-area M.P. was first reported by Rahim Mohamed of National Post.
In a letter sent Sunday, June 19th, Poilieve directed Lloyd to with him, the Conservative federal leadership team, and the Alberta federal Conservative caucus “to listen to Albertans, nswer their concerns, and lead our work to keep Canada united through hope, respect, and real change.”
“We can’t pretend that Albertans don’t have legitimate legitimate concerns and grievances,” wrote Poilievre. “Our task is not to scold Albertans. It is to hear them.”
Poilievre’s letter also makes reference to Lloyd’s status as the chair of the Alberta federal Conservative caucus, indicating that Alberta Conservative MP’s have also placed him in a leadership role through the elected position.
“Dane, you know Alberta. That’s why your fellow Albertan colleagues put their faith in you as caucus chair. You know its pride, grit, work ethic and deep love of freedom,” wrote Poilievre. You also know that Albertans are not asking for a handout. They are asking for respect.”
