Premier Smith Warns Thieves: Crime Has Consequences

In Alberta, United Conservative Premier Danielle Smith had some simple advice for an Ontario man who sustained life-threatening injuries after breaking into another man’s home.

The man was on probation and wanted by police on suspicion of multiple unrelated crimes at the time of the attack. Police in Ontario charged the homeowner with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

Once the man is released from hospital, he is expected to face charges including weapons possession, break and enter, theft, mischief and breaching probation.

Smith made the comments at the grand opening of a new addiction recovery centre in Calgary, the fourth facility her government has built. The centre has 74 beds and employs counsellors and medical staff.
