Voters in the Manitoba provincial riding of Spruce Woods elected PC candidate Colleen Robbins in a hotly contested by-election.
NDP Premier Wab Kinew campaigned personally, making millions of dollars in election promises in a bid to take the seat from the PCs. Robbins, a former nurse, successfully held on.
It was the first by-election victory for new PC Leader Obby Khan. The by-election was called after MLA Grant Jackson resigned to run for the Conservatives in the federal election in April. Jackson was elected as the new Conservative MP for Brandon-Souris, replacing Larry Maguire, who retired.
