SUMMARY:Political Series Luncheon: Taking the Initiative - Should Conservatives Stop Playing Defense on the Environment?
DESCRIPTION:Guest Speakers:\nRobert Sopuck\, MP for Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa\nAllan Gregg\, Earnscliffe Strategy Group\nRobert Sopuck is the Deputy Shadow Minister for Environment and Climate Change\, Wildlife Conservation and Parks Canada. This role uses his experience as a biologist and avid outdoors man to ensure the federal government continues to enact legislation that achieves tangible environmental benefits that do not harm Canada’s rural communities.\nAllan Gregg is among Canada’s most recognized and respected researchers\, strategists and social commentators. He has played a central role in dozens of campaigns over the last thirty years. His unique talent at Earnscliffe is to develop research-based strategies and then translate them into all aspects of campaign management – from policy and speeches to media relations; from communications and advertising to targeted grassroots campaigns.\nThis presentation and discussion will review current attitudes toward resource development and the environment and give insights into how applying conservative environmental principles can not only deal with current and emerging environmental issues but also find broad appeal across Canada and in the ballot box.\nMonday\, May 28th\, 2018\nReception: 11:45 am | Lunch: 12:15 pm\nMember & Spouse: $38pp | Guests: $48pp\n(Plus taxes & house charges)\nClick here to view flyer\nRSVP: reservations@albanyclub.ca | 416 364 5471

SUMMARY:Author Series Luncheon: “From Wall Street to Bay Street”
DESCRIPTION:Guest Speaker: Albany Club Historian\, Joe Martin\nThe 2008 financial crisis rippled across the globe and triggered a worldwide recession. Unlike the American banking system which experienced massive losses\, takeovers\, and taxpayer funded bailouts\, Canada’s banking system withstood the crisis relatively well and maintained its liquidity and profitability. The divergence in the two banking systems can be traced to their distinct institutional and political histories. Joe Martin reveals the different paths each system took which led to such different results in 2008..\nJoe Martin is the Director of the Canadian Business History Initiative at the Rotman School of Management\, University of Toronto\, President Emeritus of Canada’s History Society. Founding President of the Canadian Business History Association as well as the Albany Club’s resident historian.\nWednesday\, May 23rd\, 2018\nReception: 11:45 am | Lunch: 12:15 pm\nMember & Spouse: $38pp | Guests: $48pp\n(Plus taxes & house charges)\nClick here to view flyer

DESCRIPTION:North Side of East Mall in Oshawa (on Bond Street between Harmony and Wilson) \n  \nOur team will be doing Door-to-Door canvassing every Saturday between 10 am & 3pm starting this Saturday February 3rd\, and I’m looking for volunteers to join me. \nIf you have time this Saturday please join the team. If you can’t make it this week try for next or any Saturday you have some time to give us. Even joining us for one Saturday would be greatly appreciated and I think you’ll find it enjoyable hearing how people are ready to support the change we are offering them. \nIf you can join us please let our Volunteer Chair Rhonda (volunteer@bobchapman.ca) or me know ahead of time so we can ensure we have an appropriate number of poll lists\, clipboards\, pens\, etc. \nThat said\, if your plans change and you find some free time on any given Saturday don’t hesitate to just show up at the meeting place at 10 am\, even if you haven’t given advance notice. \nTo avoid confusion on our canvass days the meeting place & times will always be the same. \nMeet on the north side of the East Mall located east of Wilson Rd between King & Bond Sts. \nMeet at 10 am for a quick briefing on canvass locations\, etc \nStart canvassing at 10:30 am & finish around 2:30 pm.
