SUMMARY:Leadership Series: The Hon. Dr. Kellie Leitch
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the Carleton Conservative’s Leadership Series. This series will span throughout the school year. Our club will be inviting each declared Leadership candidate for the Conservative Party of Canada\, to speak to our members. This will provide you with a one-on-one experience with potentially the next Leader of the Party. This will be a great opportunity to hear their vision and for a candid Q&A session. In the spirit of fairness\, we will be inviting each candidate in the order they have declared. \nThe Hon. Dr. Kellie Leitch will be the first to speak to us about her campaign. Kellie was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Simcoe-Grey in Ontario in 2011. \nShe served as the Minister of Labour and Minister for the Status of Women in the previous government. \nKellie was born in Manitoba and spent much of her youth growing up in Alberta. She has been a hardworking activist in the Conservative Party since she was 14 and has volunteered to help the Party in almost every role available since then: installing signs\, running a campus club\, managing campaigns\, and serving on the Party executive. \nProfessionally\, Kellie has focused on helping others in her role as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. She has practiced medicine at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and presently works as volunteer surgeon at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa. She has combined her background in medicine and business on a number of innovative projects\, including as the former chair of the Ivey Business School’s Centre for Health Innovation and Leadership and as the founder of The Sandbox Project\, an organization focused on helping Canadian kids to grow up healthy and active. \nKellie also hosts an annual golf tournament to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation in memory of her mother.
